Learn specialised knowledge and skills to understand specific health and safety issues to keep the transportation of dangerous goods safe. After successfully completing our course which includes basic first aid and fire training, course briefing notes, post-course support material, and passing your exams, your ADR Certificate & ID Card will be issued by SQA and is valid for 5 years.

Due to the nature of the providing workplace first aid at this level the selection of suitable workplace first aid candidates will depend upon a number of factors. These include:

  • Reliability, disposition and communication skills.
  • Aptitude & ability to absorb new knowledge & learn new skills.
  • Ability to deal with an emergency situation in a calm and controlled manner.
  • Normal duties: These should be such that the first aider may be able to leave their normal duties immediately to provide emergency care to an ill or injured worker.

Basic first aid techniques (½ day).

A 3 hour training programme designed to give candidates a basic knowledge of emergency first aid techniques and resuscitation skills.

The WorkSafe Basic Life Support (BLS) programme meets the Learning Outcomes of the UK Resuscitation Council for CPR and introduces additional lifesaving skills.

It is an excellent syllabus to teach members of the public and community who would benefit from knowing basic lifesaving skills. During the short, concise programme we focus on immediate priorities and effective, simple care that can be performed until professional medical assistance arrives.

  • WorkSafe Basic Life Support is a short and concise training programme that focuses on initial, time critical care for life threatening situations including dealing with someone who has stopped breathing, is choking or has become unconscious.
  • Dealing with severe bleeding can be added to the syllabus dependant on requirements.
  • Information will also be presented on the Chain of Survival concept to identify how prompt, effective actions will greatly increase the chance of survival.

WorkSafe Basic Life Support training meets with the minimum training recommendations an 'Appointed Person' in the workplace as detailed in the HSE Approved Code of Practice L74.

Emergency First Aid at Work (1 day).

The qualification will equip the first aider with skills to be able to confidently undertake emergency first aid if someone becomes ill or injured at work and consists of 6 hours of instructor led tuition with the emphasis on practical application of first aid skills.

Full information on the different levels and requirements for First Aid in the Workplace can be found on the HSE website. The content covers the basic essentials required to provide emergency care to a patient.

Candidates will receive training in a range of first aid skills including:

  1. The ability to act safely and effectively when an accident or emergency occurs.
  2. The treatment and priorities of care for an unconscious patient.
  3. The recognition and treatment of a person in seizure.
  4. The recognition of cardiac arrest and delivery of Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  5. The ability to recognise and safely treat a patient who is choking.
  6. The ability to safely and promptly treat a patient who is bleeding.
  7. The keeping of simple records following an accident at work.

Successful candidates will be awarded a qualification in Emergency First Aid at Work qualification, valid for 3 years and certificated by WorkSafe Training Systems.

Please Note: The HSE recommend that all workplace first aiders receive annual refresher training in first aid techniques whilst holding this qualification.

First AID for medium and high risk environments (3 days).

The qualification will equip the first aider with skills to be able to confidently undertake emergency first aid if someone becomes ill or injured at work and provide effective care for a wide range of common workplace injuries and illnesses.  First Aid at Work training consists of 18 hours of instructor led tuition, delivered over a minimum of 3 days, with emphasis throughout on practical application of first aid skills.

The course is delivered in accordance with the Approved Code of Practice L74 for qualifying First Aid personnel in the workplace.

Candidates will receive training in a wide range of first aid skills including:

  1. The ability to act safely and effectively when an accident or emergency occurs.
  2. The treatment and priorities of care for an unconscious patient.
  3. The recognition of cardiac arrest and delivery of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  4. The ability to safely and promptly treat a patient who is bleeding.
  5. The ability to recognise and treat a patient in shock.
  6. The keeping of simple records following an accident at work.
  7. Students will also learn to provide care for patients who have:
    1. suffered a burn or scald.
    2. injured bones, muscles or joints.
    3. been poisoned by ingestion or inhalation of a substance or gas.
    4. suffered an injury to the eye.
    5. signs & symptoms of a major illness e.g. heart attack.

Assessment – This course has a formal assessment process which includes a written assessment of the learners first aid knowledge as well as practical assessment of the learner’s ability to perform safely and effectively in a range of first aid situations.

Successful candidates will be awarded a qualification in First Aid at Work, valid for 3 years and certificated by WorkSafe Training Systems.

Please Note:The HSE recommend that all workplace first aiders receive annual refresher training in first aid techniques whilst holding this qualification.

Course Duration: 3 Days (minimum 18 contact hours).  Dates do not have to be consecutive but it is advisable.
